Early last summer, I started to experience a lot of pain in the perineum area.  Upon visiting the urologist, he basically told me there was only one cure for my problem - quit riding my bike.  Since I probably would be the most miserable 55 year old in the world if I was not able to bike I started looking for alternatives.  I tried two other bike seats designed for people experiencing such problems before I purchased the spongy wonder bike seat in July of 2007.  I am very happy to report that I am back riding my normal distance of 20 to 30 miles per day on non-paved rail trails pain free.

Jeff,

I bought a Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat and liked it so much I bought one for my wife. I also added the bicycle seat covers which helps keep my bike shorts from sticking to the foam. I can now ride as far as my legs will take me. I and my butt thank you.

Hey Jeff!

I have used my Spongy Wonder bicycle seat for about 2 years now and swear by it. So much so that after reading a Bicycling Magazines article on different bicycle seats I wrote them and told them about it. Enclosed is the letter I sent, not sure if they will ever print it but I felt concerned and thought others might have the same issues.

After reading your article on saddles in the May issue and again in the July issue (Pampering your posterior)  I could not believe that you did not mention  "The Spongy Wonder bicycle seat" as an alternative for the biker who does not want his privates turning numb after a 10 mile jaunt.

After spending many hours in the saddle, and enormous amounts of money on various bicycle saddles which would supposedly end the numb nuts syndrome, I took it upon myself to search the internet for a solution. I came across the Spongy Wonder bicycle saddle which looked weird but the science behind it is dead on. The inventor was a competitive biker and after having all the problems mentioned earlier came up with this design.

It is the best investment I have made for my riding in a long time. I still commute to work daily 30 miles round trip, but at one point - until I got this bicycle seat - I had stopped riding for three months because I was getting really impotent. I can truly say this bicycle seat has brought the enjoyment of riding again and I do not ever worry about physical ramifications of riding in the wrong saddle. So maybe there are others who have never heard of this bicycle seat but have physical problems brought on by the wrong perch.

Thank you

Jeff,

Just a note: your Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat WORKS WONDERFULLY!!!!!! I have

a damaged tailbone and this is the ONLY bicycle seat that has let me ride again.

Thank You,

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know what I thought of your Spongy Wonder bicycle seat.

This is the bicycle seat that I had been looking for.  I have tried high priced traditional bicycle seats but they don't come close to the riding comfort that I get from the Spongy Wonder Seat.  It takes about a week of riding to get used to the different feel of it and after that, you will never go back.  Thanks for a great product!

I've been riding the spongy wonder bicycle seat for a couple of years now. I make it a point to try and convince everyone I know --- or even those who just ask about it since it is quite the conversation opener --- to get one. It has been so comfortable, even from the very first ride. I like it even better in the last year because I had to have some minor arthroscopic surgery on my hip. I've tried to sit on a "normal" seat and there is definitely nothing normal about them! It was excruciating even for a short ride.

The owner of a local bike shop told me that he had tried several of the alternative seat designs but found them to not provide enough stability on steep descents. I proudly told him that has never been an issue. I find the seat to be just spongy enough to allow me to "clench" it while going down steep hills. In fact, I just got a mountain bike and so ordered a second seat for that. When (not if!) you buy one, make sure to leave the web site tag on it so everyone can see how easy it is to get one.

The following is a copy of an original sent by a Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat Rider to the Mayo Clinic Health Letter Subscription Services:

To Whom it May Concern,

I was reading with interest your June 2007 article on erectile dysfunction being caused by standard bicycle seats. In that article you make the statement that an optimal seat design has yet to be determined.

I thought you would like to know about the bicycle seat I purchased about a year ago from Spongy Wonder Inc., which totally addresses this problem. I have enclosed one of their pages from their ad that is on the internet.

I can testify to the fact that it completely eliminates all pressure for both male and female, as both my male friend and I go riding at least twice a week.
We have never had any pain or discomfort from our bike rides that are generally around 20 miles at a time.

I felt compelled to write after reading your article because I did find a bicycle seat that works effectively.

I have ridden with this bicycle seat now for several years.  All other bicycle seats are just "nuts" in comparison.  All the things you say are true.  Why more people
don't catch on to this seat is something of a mystery, given the severe
discomfort of conventional "saddles".  The Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat has allowed me throw out my cycling shorts--with all their heat and bother. Wunderbar!

Thank you for a good idea!

Dear Jeffrey,

Thanks for the Spongy Wonder bicycle saddle.  In our first correspondence I mentioned a medical condition that prevented me from riding a bicycle. Recently I completed a bicycle trip of 1406 Km. in 15 days with the use of the Spongy Wonder bicycle saddle! I did not have any problems in spite of the fact that each day I have remained on the saddle many hours (between 7 and 8 hours).

I traveled through some 10 provinces of Spain until arriving at Santiago of Compostela. A great many people who asked how the bicycle saddle performed and I gave them directions so that they be put in contact with you.

With Thanks,

I have been riding for 25 years, and after long distance rides: 100 miles a day, I would have lasting pain/discomfort from the bicycle seat pressure. I have tried various standard bicycle seat designs , and every "ergo" saddle I could find.

Ultimately, I had developed enough discomfort from traditional bike saddles that I was concerned that I would have to stop cycling for a while or maybe even permanently,.....That is when I ordered my Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat. I have been riding it for 8 months now and I will never go back to any other bike seat!

Not only do I have absolutely no discomfort, but I can maintain pace and climbing ability with my cycling friends.  The only compromise is that I had to raise the handlebars to suit the new riding positioning...

Otherwise, I am riding today long distances with comfort ONLY because of the SpongyWonder bicycle seat design.

Thanks for a wonderful product!!!

Jeff, I had the pleasure of riding your Spongy Wonder bicycle seat this weekend.
Although I only spent five minutes spinning around the neighborhood, I can already tell that this will be the only seat I will ever need again!!!  The craftsmanship is intense, and I am very pleased so far.  I brought the bicycle seat in to my local tech shop and everyone there was more than impressed.

Thanks again, I'll let you know how things progress as soon as the latest snowfall melts
away....

PS - I love my saddle so much I'm thinking of buying a new bike to go  with it!!!!!!!

I just wanted to email you and say, Thanks. The bike seat is wonderful. I was able
to put a few miles on my bike, before the Nor'Easter completely rolled in.

Thanks again,

Jeffrey,

You may recall I ordered one of your bicycle seats about 2 years ago.  I must say the design is clearly the way to go for bicycle seats. In addition, your particular design is simple and robust.  I have been riding with it back and forth from work (45 km both ways) daily summer and winter.  It was OK even at -20 deg C.

I am placing an order for 3 more Spongy Wonder bicycle seats for my tandem bicycle and for my son and friend.  Please include the little seat covers and add the cost to the bill.

Joe

My husband is a serious cyclist, while I can hardly walk and chew gum, and have little cycling experience.  To ride together we bought an independent coasting tandem and after a short season on a traditional saddle, I was in so much pain I could barely walk.  To make a long story short, we traded in the traditional bicycle seat for a spongy wonder and now our riding is limited only by my heart condition (getting better) and my leg strength.

I just ordered another spongy wonder bicycle seat.

Thank you for stressing the physio aspects throughout your website.  It helped with my decision.

Thanks again,

Jeff I want to thank you for the great bicycle seat. I do not understand why they are not available at every bike shop.

I also want to thank you for the football my oldest son and I are out almost every night after work throwing it around. There is nothing better a father and son could do to spend some time together.

I just want to thank you for your creation of the spongy wonder bicycle seat.  I had not been able to ride a bike for 15 years due to vulvar pain.  I ordered your bicycle seat without owning a bike because I was unsure if it would work for me.  After trying it on a friend's bike, I bought my own bike the next day.  It is incredible.  No pain!  Just enjoyable biking.  My first day I was able to ride it 5 miles.  I feel that your seat has given me back something that pain had taken away for a long time.  Thanks for the freedom, comfort and pure enjoyment!

I'd ridden more than a thousand miles in the year before prostate surgery but was unable to ride without pain afterward.

I bought a Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat and was riding like my old self after day one.

Thank you!

Jeff,

Started using the Spongy Wonder MK9 bicycle seat early July, '06 following prostate cancer surgery (May 3, 2006).  Our preferred terrain is where mountain lions roam, deer are startled and boulders squeeze the trails.

Originally, it took about five hours of MK9 riding to get used to it.  Now, after many more hours on my MK9, I'm committed to the spongy disks and will never ride a "wedge" seat/saddle again.  This Christmas-eve my son-in-law let me test ride his new Turner rig, fitted with a WTB sst bicycle seat ($115 US).  I lasted fifteen minutes before those old feelings began to come back: pressure from below, tingling around my mighty Joe (actually Steve in this case), and urges to squirt on a bush (which I did for old-times sake).

The only frustration I'm experiencing now is getting other riders in my age group (50+) to get the message: to get off the wedge and mount up on The Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat.

Thank you!

Steve S.

The Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat is great and the best of the noseless, perineal sparing Bicycle seats that I've tried.  I'm going to the site to order another one for my other upright bike.

I am an avid roadie, and was riding about 150-200 miles a week, when I developed "saddle-induced prostatitis". I fought it for about a year, and tried about 10 different saddles, cutouts, no cutouts, everything, but I was about one step away from having to quit riding. My last step was the Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat.

I had immediate relief, the bicycle seat nose was the root cause of my problem. I have been able to ramp the mileage back up, and am riding 2 hours per day again with absolutely no problems. I'm surprised more urologists are not aware of this.

After riding for almost 20 years I am surprised that the damage inflicted upon the male body is kept secret.  I stopped riding for 2 years after a visit to my urologist.  After I showed him your bicycle seat he told me to try it and since then I am as good a rider as before.

My friends laughed at me at first.  But as they started having problems they slowly reached to me and asked where they could buy one of your seats.  If I had known what was coming my way I would have bought your bicycle seat when I was 18, not when I was 37!!!!

My experience with the Spongy Wonder bicycle seat has been fantastic!: stainless steel, it is easy to adjust and I have adapted to it very well.  It is light and on top of all this’Ķ my perineal zone is safe!.  I recommend it to everyone who likes to ride his bike.

Folks,

After about 55 years of being an avid bike rider, I contracted

prostatitis and was no longer able to ride.  After three years of frustration at not being able to pursue my favorite form of exercise, I tried one of your bicycle seats.  It worked.  I'm back in the "saddle" again.  I passed your bicycle seat info on to my urologist and she promises to spread the word.  Keep up the good work and don't go out of business--just in case I wear out the seat.  Thanks again.

Jeffrey,

Your bicycle seat gave me the bike back again.  Sounds dramatic, but entirely true.

Three years ago I was an avid cyclist, about 100 mile/week, commuting and recreational.  Rode a road bike, no Lance, but it was a VERY important part of my life.

Did a 50K ride with my hard, thin seat raised to allow better leg extension and immediately thereafter developed persistent pain in the genitals.  Pain worsened over the ensuing months.  I saw numerous physicians, GPs, urologists, sports medicine specialists, neurologists, etc.  I got diagnoses ranging from Peyronnies disease to the good old catch-all, idiopathic prostratitis.  At its worst, I was unable to sit in a chair for more than a few minutes without pain.

Cut to the chase, I had pudendal nerve entrapment also often referred to as cyclists syndrome.  I went to Nantes, France, where they apparently do know something about cycling, and had decompression neurosurgery with Prof. Roger Robert who specializes in treating PNE.

A year after the decompression surgery, I have started to ride again, cautiously, only about 25 miles/week now as I still get the occasional twinge. I'm still healing.

Bottom line is that without the Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat I WOULD NOT be cycling again - there is no way I could sit on a normal bicycle seat, even seats with a definite split.  If I had always ridden with a Spongy Wonder I would not have developed PNE.  The standard bicycle seat is NOT a healthy thing.

With apologies to female cyclists, as I do not know the symptomotology there, every male cyclist has experienced the good old numbness with a standard bicycle seat - you just shake it off. When you experience that numbness you ARE damaging the pudendal nerve - something, trust me, you DO NOT want to damage.

Jeffrey, thank you! As I said, the Spongy Wonder has given the bike back to me - I cannot begin to describe what that means to me after 3 years. If any of your other customers want more details on PNE, please have them contact me - you have my permission to supply my email address if requested.  It’Äôs a condition that few medical practitioners are readily familiar with and is usually misdiagnosed.

Once again, thanks for a terrific product.

I started using a Spongy Wonder bicycle seat about four years ago.  Just prior to that I had almost concluded I would have to stop due to "wear and tear" on the wrong body parts.  I had tried a split bicycle seat, and when that failed, I literally sawed the horn off the seat.  Then I got on the internet and found Spongy Wonder.  What a great product!  It has allowed me to continue seeing the countryside on my bike, often four two to four hours at a time, with no ill affects.

I am fifty-five years old and there are a lot of things I cannot still do, but biking is not one of them thanks to Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat.  For those of you who still need a saddle horn ... get a horse.

Sincerely,

J. Clark

I've had your bicycle seat for about two years and it's great!

I had problems with penile numbness, and then developed possible nerve damage. I tried bicycle seats with slots down the middle -- no difference. Then I tried yours, and it's been perfect. No problems installing it or using it. Zero pressure on the sensitive nerves and plumbing that my urologist had discussed with me. Thank you for making available such a well-designed, well-made bicycle seat.

I've been using your excellent bike seats for about 2 years...I love them..excellent idea....everyone I know wants one so you should get a few more orders from devon,uk.....I'm regularly stopped in the high street and complete strangers ask me about the bike seat....swear by them...

Best regards

Nice Seat

I've been using your bicycle seat for just about a year now, saw the ad in an old Popular Science mag and decided to try it. I wasn't convinced at first, the muscles involved seemed different, more open.

I noticed right off that going uphill was a totally new experience for me. I wasn't able to "cheat" by hugging the seat horn.  I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but it was a big deal for me, since I ride up a half-mile hill on my way home from work.

But I stuck with it and within a week I was basically back to my old climbing stride.  The nice thing is it opened my hips during the climb, forcing a more natural and balanced motion going uphill.  I can't swear to the dynamic modeling of this, but I felt it, and feel it everyday when I climb a hill.

On the flat, nothing compares to your bicycle seat, its so natural and well "flat", that's the best way I can put it. You just kind of sit there, no real friction or grinding of bits, like with a regular bicycle seat.  Forty miles is nothing with this seat, now I wish you guys would produce bars or gloves with the same benefit.

Come on, I know you can do it.

Most Respectfully yours,

Dave

Portland, Oregon

Hi there,

My parents got me your bicycle seat as a birthday present some years back, and being an ex-mountain bike racer I admit to looking at it with some disdain albeit with much curiosity.  Two years ago I bought an old road bike to turn it into an urban/commuting bicycle, and installed your bicycle seat on it to try it out.  I cannot, will not, go back to the traditional style saddles again.  Period.  I have never tried a more comfortable saddle, and every time a passerby asks about it I give them your site address.  I've even left on the little plastic tag with the website to better preach the good word!  Great job, great concept!

Comfortably riding in Montr_(c)al,

Dear Jeffrey,

It is wonderful to be able to ride a bicycle again - in comfort! Thank you for the Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat! I'm very happy to explain the benefits of the Spongy Wonder Bicycle Seat to anyone who cares to contact me - especially to those who live in Australia.

I wanted to follow up with you concerning the recent purchase of your Spongy Wonder bicycle seat. I now have over one hundred miles on the seat.  It feels better every time I ride. It is as natural to use as any bicycle seat I have ever been on.  I believe the pads are adapting to my contour and, of course, there is no discomfort, pain, or numbness associated with typical bicycle seats.  Your seat is allowing me to continue a physical

activity that my doctors recommended I discontinue due to the prostate problems they believed to stem from the seat on my bike.  I would recommend to everyone who loves riding, as I do, to use your Spongy Wonder bicycle seat.

Again, thank you for spending your time talking me thru the benefits and insisting I take the necessary time to make sure it is properly adjusted.

I can now ride for hours in comfort and with the knowledge I am not creating health problems in doing so.

Sincerely

B.Watkins

Hey Jeff,

I can't tell you how pleased I am with this new bicycle seat!!

I used to bike a lot a few years ago.  I enjoyed the activity even though I got numb in some "sensitive" areas.  I haven't been on my bike for several years.  I got on it about a month ago so I could ride along side my little 9 year old nephew (who can bike circles around me).  I could only go a short distance. The bicycle seat was even more uncomfortable than it was back then.  I'm a big guy 225 lbs. and the 1000 yard ride was excruciating.  I got on theinternet, found you folks and ordered the SW seat.  I just installed it today (took about 5 minutes) and went for a short spin.  It's absolutely amazing.  There is no discomfort and no numbing sensation.  Because of this seat I will be able to enjoy riding my bike again but more important than that I will be able to regain a normal body weight thus improving my health.

Everyone who rides a bicyc
